Introducing 2023 Eclipse Award Honoree Jesse Magruder

Jesse Magruder's remarkable journey in education is a testament to the profound impact teachers can have on their students. Born during the era of segregation, his passion for learning was ignited by parents who nurtured his curiosity. In eighth grade, Ms. Hunt's innovative teaching methods left an indelible mark, sparking his educational journey.


Despite initial reluctance, Jesse pursued higher education with the guidance of a mentor, thriving at Wilberforce University. Returning to his roots in Virginia, he dedicated himself to teaching at various schools, founding the Young Astronauts Club to inspire young minds. His pursuit of a master's degree and administrative roles further solidified his commitment to education.


Even in retirement, Jesse's involvement with organizations like the Academic Scholar Institute and the Orange County Education Foundation demonstrates his unwavering dedication to nurturing the next generation. His story exemplifies the transformative power of teachers, leaving a legacy of inspiration and opportunity for generations to come.
